Summary of presentation: This study examined how gender dynamics and socio-cultural norms shape farmers’ participation and decision-making in tricot on-farm trials across five Savanna-region states in Nigeria. Using multi-stage sampling, 900 farmers evaluated improved groundnut, sorghum, and pearl millet varieties. Results show persistent gender gaps in education, extension access, and cooperative membership that reduce women’s participation and influence in varietal selection. Men largely controlled decisions on inputs, production, and crop sales, though women showed strong expertise in sorghum and millet production and slightly higher leadership involvement. Logistic regression identified education, extension exposure, and cooperative membership as key predictors of women’s participation in tricot activities. Restrictive norms remain major barriers to women’s agency and resource access, underscoring the need for gender-responsive extension, inclusive trial design, and community engagement to support equitable participation and technology adoption.
