Summary of presentation: His presentation explores the socio-economic drivers shaping farmer participation in decentralized varietal evaluation using the tricot approach under the 1000FARMS initiative in Northeast Nigeria. Drawing on multi-location data from Borno and Gombe States, the study applies econometric analysis to examine how human capital, farm resource endowments and institutional access such as extension services, farmer organizations and digital connectivity influence engagement in farmer-led experimentation. The findings demonstrate that participation in innovation systems is driven less by demographic factors and more by access to knowledge and institutions, underscoring the need for inclusive, data-driven approaches to scaling climate-resilient technologies in dryland agriculture.
